The Veiled Lady of Williamsport

People in Williamsport tell tales of a "Veiled Lady" said to wander the streets and alleys.

The story appeared sometime in the late 19th century and revived in spectacular manner in 1943, when residents reported a cluster of sightings of the ghostly figure. Over the next decade such reports became more sporadic, but people occasionally responded by taking matters into their own hands, as in the Morning Herald article pictured at left.
